PETER JACKSON IS SO TIRED, HE ASKS BRYAN SINGER & FRANK DARABONT TO PINCH HIT

http://www.bluetights.net/video_medium.php?id=7 (*Video Link*)

GOTTA SEE THIS. Bryan Singer gets a call from Peter Jackson. Seems Jackson is exhausted and is falling asleep in the director's chair. So he asks Singer to drop what he's doing (a little film called Superman) and pinch hit while he takes a nap?

UPDATE: Here's Peter's side of the story (which isn't different at all) from his Production Video Blog.

My favorite part is where he says to Bryan on the phone - if you're on 16 hours days, what are you doing for the other 8 hours?

In the end, Jackson declares that he's going to finish the picture like a man - on his own. And then promptly falls asleep again! So the crew brings in Frank Darabont to close out the last shot.

Amazing.

REDLIGHT, GREENLIGHT

Project Greenlight. This time, they're making a monster movie and I'm hooked. Not because of the horror movie, but, true to their marketing, because of the horror of MAKING the movie!

The director, John Gulager, is a train wreck. He can't express himself to the studio head. Procrastinates calling him for over a week. He won't direct actors in casting sessions. And he wants to cast only family and friends. And can't tell the creature guy how he sees the monsters.

WHO IS THIS RUBE! As a director, it really pisses me off that this idiot - no matter how talented he is with his reel - has a shot at the major leagues and he's acting like an insecure spoiled brat who doesn't want to work with anyone other than who he's worked with before. And the worst part? HE WON'T DEFEND HIS DECISION TO DO SO. They're just supposed to "trust him" because his family of actors are the greatest actors in the world.

You see the train on the track heading for the semi and are just waiting for it to derail.

UGH. What I could've done with that opportunity.

AND THE WINNER IS ...

telly_statuesmall.jpg

Just got a note from my writing partner that our short film, SEARCHING FOR INSPIRATION, just won a TELLY AWARD!

That's right, folks, it's now an "award winning" short and that makes me an "award winning" director!

YOU CAN'T EXPECT ME TO DO NOTHING ...

Well, I have the fan film bug again. For two projects. One - called THE SMUGGLER which is being storyboarded right now. The other is called STARFLEET RENEGADES and is a followup to PIRACY OF THE NOBLE from 2003. I finished a script today. Wrote nearly 20 pages to get it done. Not sure if I'll get to see either of these to fruition or if they end up at ABANDON IN PLACE PRODUCTIONS. But never the less, I'm taking them one step at a time and seeing where they end up. Course, I also have Area 66 waiting in the wings as well.

Time to direct again.

A WRITER'S STORY ABOUT CREDIT ARBITRATION

Very interesting interview with 'AvP' Writer Peter Briggs and his experience seeing his 13 year vision of Alien vs. Predator and what it ended up being.

"I came out of the cinema (from "A vs P") afterwards, and I felt... I don't know. Empty. Depressed, actually. I thought: "you know, I've been championing this thing for 13 years...and what a sterile letdown. Why did I bother?" It was interesting. I thought about going off and getting very drunk, but just went home and read a book instead."

Worth a read for those of us trying to become writers in Hollywood and the lesson we can learn from his experience.

INT. - I KNEW IT WAS COMING - DAY

And frankly, it's probably for the best. After nearly twenty years of writing together, my partner and I are pretty much parting ways, heading off in different directions. He wants to concentrate on being an author exclusively, and while I share that dream, I also wish to make movies.

He simply doesn't have the passion for it anymore since the experience is more frustration and dashed expectations than the glory of finishing a film and having it viewed.

The NFC fiasco pretty much did it for him. But I know this was a long time coming.

So, it's the UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY for me. I'll always be thankful to him for helping me develop my craft, but I agree, it's time to move on.
